HBO have released the trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s latest TV drama ‘The Newsroom’. It is his latest project after ‘The Social Network’ and it looks like a much darker affair as a previous impartial TV anchor called Will McAvoy, played by Jeff Daniels (“the Jay Leno of news anchors”), goes into meltdown after he lets rip in front of a college audience.

The Newsroom will be the first modern drama about journalism made for the digital and social media age. With ‘The Social Network’ behind him this looks like a show that will be heavily informed by the internet and how it has changed news media. Read More »

Peter Thiel the guy who got very rich by co-founding PayPal and investing early in Facebook once had a hedge fund worth an astronomical $7.2bn. He now presides over a fund that that is down about 90% with long term clients suffering losses of 65% from a mid-2008 peak, according to a long piece on Bloomberg.

“The Social Network” got off to a great start on its first weekend, fuelled by fulsome praise from critics, as it took in $23m according to the Los Angeles Times. Looks like the movie about Mark Zuckerberg and how he founded Facebook is going to be more of a PR headache than some anticipated.

According to the 2010 Forbes 400 list of the Wealthiest Americans, five years after founding Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg is now worth more than Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs. He is worth $6.9bn having added $4.9bn to his fortune in the last year.
