Barcelona and Chelsea set Twitter record as semi-final edges out Super Bowl for most tweets per second

Barcelona FC's stadim Camp Nou - the scene of Chelsea's dramatic victory over BarcelonaThe dramatic finish to the second leg of the Chelsea v Barcelona Champions League semi final did not only light up television screens around the world it set a new record on Twitter.

As football beat out the NFL’s Super Bowl to become the biggest sporting event on Twitter and set a new tweets per second record. I’m guessing many were surprised that Fernando Torres had scored a goal at Camp Nou to seal Chelsea’s victory – having scored only a handful since September 2011. Read More »

BBC one of the top ten most retweeted brands on Twitter

US football sets new Twitter record surpassing Beyonce

A new sporting Twitter record was set on Sunday as reaction to 80-yard overtime touchdown pass by the Denver Broncos quarterback, Tim Tebow, hit 9,420 tweets per second.

The touchdown, which was scored in overtime, by the Denver Broncos player, led his team to victory and an upset against the Pittsburgh Steelers — although it failed to displace Japan in the number one spot. Read More »

Washington Post columnist suspended for Twitter hoax [Irony]
