News flash: newspaper Twitter feeds are a bunch of self-serving dullards

Newspapers are the worst kind of Twitter followers. They’re un-engaging. They rarely, if ever, retweet. Their followers/following figures are forever skewed. As well, according to a new study, nine-tweets-out-of-ten are just re-spouted links and headlines from their own website.

Social news startup Ongo raises $12m from NY Times and Gannett

A news sharing start-up called Ongo, which has raised $12m from USA Today publisher-Gannett, the New York Times Company and the Washtington Post Company.

It is headed by former eBay executive Alex Kazim, who previously ran defunct  blog aggregator Tokoni. At eBay he was a senior VP and president of Skype. Read More »

iPad hype peaks with positive reviews

Hype for the Apple iPad will only be stoked by early positive reviews for the product, especially amongst heavy-hitter tech journalists for the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and USA Today, who have been able to test the product a week before its release date.

Walt Mossberg at allthingsd marvelled at the device as a “new type of computer all together”.

Mossberg said: “You have to feel it, to use it, to fully understand it and decide if it is for you, or whether, say, a netbook might do better.” Read More »
