Google what? Google shuts down Google Buzz

Do you remember Google Buzz? Did you use it. No of course you didn’t. Google has quietly announced it is to shut down its already forgotten Buzz project, which it launched back in February 2010, and focus its attention on Google+.

Google Buzz has gone the way of Google Wave which was axed last year due to “lack of adoption”. The same is true of Buzz, which was a badly executed half idea that never went anywhere. Is Google+ going to make it?

That took it long enough. Google co-founder Larry Page has named the web giant’s first head of social media as part of a management shuffle of senior executives.

The sale of Twitter? Five things it could mean

Is there a Twitter wedding in the offing?The web is awash this morning with talk that Twitter could be sold. It is said to be in talks with both Facebook and Google. Not just those two, but others as well. Who else? Maybe Microsoft.

Facebook killer Google Me is delayed until 2011

It is being reported that Go0gle’s planned social networking initiative Google Me is to be delayed until the Spring of next year.

Google writes to users over Buzz privacy settlement (but don’t expect a payout)

Google Buzz logoGoogle has taken the slightly unusual step of writing to Gmail users via email, to say they’ve reached a settlement in a lawsuit regarding Google Buzz in which they were sued by a group of users concerned about privacy.

The full details of the settlement are outlined on the website BuzzClassAction, which explains that it is alleged that Google ‘automatically enrolled Gmail users in Buzz, and that Buzz publicly exposed data, including users’ most frequent Gmail contacts, without enough user consent.’ Read More »

Google TV – Prepare to be humbled

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the folks over at Google TV have started courting the Big 4 (ABC, NBC, Fox and CBS) in a bid to a make legitimate run at the potential gold rush that is TV over the web.
