Telegraph to follow FT and NY Times down the metered paywall route

News Corporation might recently have delayed The Sun’s move to paid content, in light of the disappointment with the The Times, but that is not stopping the Telegraph Media Group pushing ahead with plans to introduced a metered paywall for Telegraph.co.uk.

Marketing reports today that the Daily Telegraph website is to a unveil paid-for website in September and that it will be a metered model, which unlike The Times and its anti-social media paywall will allow articles to be freely shared online. Smart move. Read More »

PCC ruling says Twitter is not private and fair game for the Daily Mail

In case there was any doubt, your Twitter feed is now officially fair game for any tabloid hack with some space to fill. That’s because the Press Complaints Commission has said in an historic ruling — the first it has made regarding republication of information originating from Twitter — that it is not upholding complaints made by a tweeter about stories that ran in the Daily Mail and the Independent on Sunday.

Plagiarism in the age of the web: Daily Mail caught red handed taking from the New York Times

Roy Greenslade has highlighted a case of blatant plagiarism as the Daily Mail is caught red handed ripping off a long piece about how the rise of consumer electronic devices could cause plane crashes.

The New York Times piece, by Christine Negroni, quotes half a dozen sources and every single one appears in the story by Mail hack Liz Thomas including people with distinctive names such as Dinkar Mokadam, of the Association of Flight Attendants. Facebook driving more traffic to news sites than Twitter

Intriguing research into how social networks are sending traffic to French news websites shows that Twitter is well behind Facebook in terms of the percentage of total percentage of visits delivered.
