Your comments about jumping on the bandwagon simply demonstrate that you haven't yet found a use for Pinterest, and you haven't appreciated the potential it holds for brands as a marketing platform.

Sounds to me like someone is in the pockets of the big pay walls. At the end of the day consumers don't want to pay for news when there are so many free sources. There is a rise in hyper local news sites and these full the gaps and often provide more detail that the so called professional organisations. As time goes by we will see the setting up of more and more hyper local media stations funded through advertising. The Murdocks of this world will have to accept that the genie is out of the bottle.

Very interesting. At Propellernet we added a PR/media relations team to the original SEO team in 2008 and have never looked back. Bringing those two cultures together wasn't easy, but we now think of everyone as SEOs - the teams aren't separate.

The PR skilled team managing influencer relations are the largest team here and growing all the time. Feedback from clients and more importantly budget allocation, suggests that clients see the value in using PR-skills to actively build quality authoritative links, without paying for them.

One example of the challenges? PR teams get excited when they see their highly branded coverage in a few key publications - SEO Consultants are happier with a greater variety of high DA coverage, possibly with lower readership, probably with less highly branded editorial, sometimes even alongside competitor brands. We find we're able to amplify traditional PR to great effect benefiting us, our clients, AND the PR agency involved.

Having missed the opportunity for years I find it hard that PR companies will suddenly take up the SEO challenge, mainly because of the cultural issues that come from bringing tech SEO and PR skills together, but there are always exceptions. Hopefully there will be more, because recruiting is tough when so few PRs have a good understanding of SEO and social, so I'm all for PRs trying to get more involved in SEO so that our recruitment pool increases!

Hi Webscape Marketing - yes, SEO can steal this business if PR is apathetic (as it appears to be), despite its head-start in link building and social abilities.

You might enjoy this podcast I recorded on SEO and PR with Leapfrogg's Lucy Freeborn last year http://www.planetcontent.co.uk/podcast-pr-seo-leapfrogg

It's all up for grabs...
