Sony has released a couple of videos previewing its forthcoming S1 and S2 Android tablet computers.

Is The Daily in trouble? Editor tells staff to find better stories

Only weeks into the life of New Corporation’s iPad only title The Daily its editor, Jesse Angelo, has sent a memo to his editorial team telling them that they need to go beyond “scraping the web and the wires”.

It cost $30m to launch. Now can iPad newspaper The Daily make any money?

The DailyNews Corp’s exclusive iPad newspaper was unveiled at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City today by Rupert Murdoch, joined by Apple’s Eddy Cue, who was standing in for Steve Jobs.

Featuring a 100+ page newspaper covering current affairs, gossip, opinion, arts and life, apps and games, and sports with lots of complementary multimedia content such as videos and 360 degree images, The Daily is available just in the US at present, at a cost of 99c a week through the iPad App Store.

The application will update throughout the day and you’ll be able to comment on articles, share them on social sites and even have some of them read to you. Read More »

With 15m sold it is happy anniversary Apple iPad [infographic]

Is it that time already? Yesterday, Gartner said that mobile application revenue will nearly triple in 2011, to $15.1bn ($5.2bn last year) and much of that growth will come from 18 billion app downloads 60,000 of which are designed for the Apple iPad, which has seen sales beat expectations.

The iPad, almost a year old now, had racked up sales of almost 15 million (14.8 million by the end of 2010) and about 7.33 million of those sales came in December. That growth is set to rocket this year as this infographic shows. Read More »

New York Times paywall to cost less than $20 a month

Bloomberg is reporting that the New York Times paywall is to cost less than $20 (£12.50) a month and maybe as little as $10.

The news service quoted “a person familiar with the matter. The paper had talked about launching its paywall this month, but it looks like it will go up early in February. Read More »

Murdoch’s The Daily turns to Tumblr to drive social media

Rupert Murdoch’s planned iPad newspaper, The Daily, is to use Tumblr as part of its social media strategy to drive subscriptions.

Good news to hear that it has a social media strategy as last week the indications were that the now delayed  Daily would have a website that would only be accessible to subscribers like the the anti-social media approach of The Times. Read More »

News Corp and Apple push back The Daily launch

As reported earlier this week Rupert Murdoch and Apple CEO Steve Jobs had been planning to jointly launch News Corporation’s iPad newspaper, The Daily, next week on January 19. Not so, apparently.

Jobs and Murdoch to jointly unveil iPad paper; title will be anti-social media

It’s being reported that Rupert Murdoch will be joined on stage by Apple CEO Steve Jobs for the launch of News Corporation’s iPad newspaper, The Daily, which will be unveiled next week (January 19).

It is also being speculated that The Daily will take a page out of the Times anti-social media playbook and lock its associated website away from search and bloggers.
