The social Super Bowl 2013 – the winners and losers [infographic]

Budweiser: Super Bowl 2013 campaignThis year has been a huge one in terms of social media and the Super Bowl with many advertisers including Oreo, who we wrote about earlier, Tide, Calvin Klein and  Go Daddy doing very well.  The Whispr Group has created this infographic that highlights some of the standout moments and evaluates social media ROI for the top brands buzzed about on Twitter last night as the Baltimore Ravens took down the San Francisco 49ers amid a power cut.

The above advertisers weren’t the only advertisers to do well. The Budweiser Clydesdale commercial, Brotherhood, basically went viral. It was the most shared and watched ad of the Super Bowl so far with over 1.5 million shares and 6 million views (that means every 3.6 people who saw it shared it). Read more »

Pinterest introduces news feature to make content easier to discover

Screen_Shot_2013-01-23_at_4.25.34_PM.pngPinterest has revamped its activity feed and launched a new “News” tool that is designed to make content easier to find on the picture-based social media notice board.  You will now be able to view “your News” on the left side of your home feed and in the News tab on your profile.

It will also include board invitations, but it will not include likes or new followers. Not clear why they are not included, but you can still receive notifications about likes and new followers through your emails.  Read more »

Social Brands 100 opens for 2013 nominations in biggest year yet

Social brands 100 is open for 2013 nominationsThe search for this year’s top brands in social media has begun as Social Brands 100 opens today for nominations in what will be the biggest year yet for the bench ranking report. Last year’s number one brand was food and smoothie drinks maker Innocent, which beat Starbucks, giffgaff and Cancer Research UK to take the top slot. The ranking also featured names from a wide range of industries including the British Red Cross Cadbury, ASOS, Manchester City Football Club, and KLM. Addicted to the web – two thirds ‘need’ the internet to function [infographic]

Addicted to the web: Many of us can't take a break from the interent Almost two thirds of people now admit they ‘need’ the internet to function in everyday life, according to new research. The study of 2,000 people has found that, on average, we only go a maximum of 90 minutes during the day without checking Facebook, Twitter or email. As many as one in ten even admit they don’t go longer than ten minutes during the day without logging on to catch up with friends or work. Read more »

The Diet Coke ‘hunk’ to return with launch planned for Facebook

Everbody’s favourite TV ad hunk, Coca Cola’s Diet Coke hunk, is set to return to our screens five years after the brand dropped him. Diet Coke has unveiled a teaser ad on its Facebook page hinting at the return of the “hunk” to mark the brand’s 30th anniversary. Coke has released a 20-second teaser clip featuring the Etta James track ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’, which was used in Diet Coke’s famous 1996 ad, which first introduced the ‘Diet Coke’ hunk. Insights include that 75% of the top 20 most shared ads from Super Bowl 2012 were launched before Super Sunday and for two years running Volkswagen has been the most shared brand. Twitter launches Oscar Index to track the buzz

Facebook is charging $100 to send a message to Mark Zuckerberg

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg: "guys you can send me a Facebook message for $100"How badly do you want to get in contact with Mark Zuckerberg? Maybe you have a genius idea that you want to share with the Facebook founder and CEO. Or maybe you want to let him know exactly what you think of the most recent changes to privacy it hasmade or what it is doing to Instagram? Just a thought.

Whatever the case is Mashable is reporting that Facebook, ever more eager to make a buck or two, is offering the chance to send a message to Zuckerberg all for the princely sum of $100.  Read more »
