The four pillars of social media marketing - The Wisdom of Harry Nilsson This week I’ve been amazed by the prophetic wisdom of folk music legend Harry Nilsson. In 1969 he sang:  “Everybody’s talking at me, I don’t hear a word they’re saying, Only the echoes of my mind.”

Facebook – The black hole of the internet

Black holes are fascinating, aren’t they?  Mysterious, huge, invisible and dangerous elements of theoretical science.  Something which is an important part of how our solar system works but also something that we have never seen.

So this poses the question, if we can’t see them then how are black holes formed?  Well, the most common theory is that a black hole is formed where a colossal star, with a mass of more than 3 times our Sun, reaches the end of its life and gets crushed under its own gravity, leaving behind a compact black hole which sucks in everything in its path. I subscribe to a web service called TimeHop that emails me every day with my social status from exactly a year ago (A year ago today it reminded me that I was out with friends and eating delicious mexican food)  Another service called Memolane literally turns your entire social history into a scrapbook. Does social media demand a new kind of agency?

The continued rise of social media has forced any agency worth their salt to change and adapt. But I think the biggest change is yet to come. It’s encouraging to see how much social media has forced our industry to take a long hard look at itself across all disciplines.

Filling the creativity gap in social media

The Littlest Hobo is a Canadian television series - but does it also describe social media?Although nearly a month ago now, I still find myself having flashbacks to a panel that I was asked to speak on during social media week entitled, “Who owns Social – Marketing, PR or Advertising?”
