As if it’s not enough that Facebook has documented every time over the past four years that you’ve drunkenly commented on someone’s photos or ill-advisedly ‘got something off your chest’ in the form of a status update – now it is also going to make a record of your sins of omission.

Yes, according to a Techcrunch report, Facebook is planning to launch buttons to indicated that you’ve read or watched something online – and, by definition, what you’ve not bothered to read.

People who use social media the most are less involved in the outside world and might not be as worthwhile targeting as marketers believe, new research indicates.

Resonate, which specializes in online audience targeting, has found that heavy social media users are less likely to be involved in politics; less likely to donate to charity; and less likely to do online shopping, not spending as much as other groups when they do.

Following questions over the veracity of Newt Gingrich’s 1.3 million follower count on Twitter, the redoubtable American institution NPR has investigated the practice of buying Twitter followers.

My Name Is Me: campaigning for policy change

I didn’t know it was an issue, but a group is campaigning to get these social networks to change their registration policies so that people can use whatever identity they choose.
