Google launches Wallet and Groupon rival Google Offers

We’ve all been there. You get to the till, hand over your goods, and promptly remember that you’ve left the gift card/loyalty card/money-off coupon at home. But it’s a frustration that could soon be history thanks to Google’s latest mobile app Google Wallet, which is being launched hand in hand with the search giant’s rival to Groupon.

Yet another ‘game-changer’ from the search giant, which is increasingly infiltrating every aspect of our lives, Google Wallet is, well, exactly what it sounds. A 21st Century wallet. Using near field communication (as per Oyster Cards on London’s Underground), users will be able to tap their phone onto readers to pay for goods and ties in very handily with Google Offers. 2011 has been heralded as ‘the year of social media’. But can it really offer companies as solid a marketing investment as search?
