An Exeter University graduate, Adrian began his digital career at Moodia Ltd., a specialist agency focused on online usability, web design and development, search and conversion rate optimisation. Moodia was one of the first agencies in London to start offering Facebook marketing (following the launch of Facebook Platform) in 2007. Adrian took on the role of Managing Director in Jan 2009 – featuring in ‘Who’s Who of Britain’s Business Elite – Young Business Leaders 2009’ – and led the sale of Moodia to Zone Ltd. later in the same year.

Following a career break and a stint of freelance consultancy work, Adrian refocused on the burgeoning world of social media marketing, joining Zone Ltd. as their newly appointed Head of Social Media in April 2010. Whilst at Zone he worked on social media strategies and successful initiatives for a range of blue chip clients including Coca-Cola, Dr Pepper, Channel 4 and BT.

Adrian joined STEAK Ltd. as Head of Social Media in July 2011 and now leads a promising team, working with Adecco, Crew Clothing, Virgin Holidays, Swiftcover and Allianz.

    This is definitely the easiest way to guarantee a following fast; decide how many ‘fans’ you want then simply go to any dodgy-looking site (probably via a Facebook ad) take your wallet out (remember to stick your head in the sand) et voila, success! But wait a second; by definition once you directly pay for a relationship what does that relationship become? What does it really mean? My big problem with ‘engagement’

In a recent post high priest of web measurement, Avinash Kaushik, suggests that we look to try to measure four core metrics that will help tell us how we’re doing with our social media efforts:

  • 1. Conversation – the rate at which people respond
  • 2. Amplification – the distance those discussions travel
  • 3. Applause – Electronic approval such as Likes, +1s etc
  • 4. Economic Value – Amount of money your efforts actually generate

This is a useful, if not entirely revolutionary, packaging of some ideas that quite a few folk in the world of social media marketing have been working with for some time now. Read more on My big problem with ‘engagement’…
