Winner stays: Nike brings out their World Cup 2014 ad

RonaldoWith the World Cup nearly upon us, brands are continuing to unleash their insanely epic and expensive campaigns to the world, just in case you haven’t heard that it all kicks off in about 40 days. Last week saw Castrol featuring footie star, Neymar, in their epic video, which continues to snowball out of control with views and shares. However, this week Nike have stepped up and revealed what they’ve got for the event. And sweet Jesus, it is epic!

No expense was spared in Weiden + Kennedy’s Nike “Winner Stays” video. Trust them to turn a generic and normal kids footie match into a surreal star-studded affair with more famous faces than you can shake a stick at. Transforming the kids into super-star players one-by-one soon means that so many football stars are crammed into this 4 minute video that to list all the players would take up more room than this blog post can spare… But to name a few: Cristiano Renaldo, Neymar Jr, Wayne Rooney etc etc.  A comic hero cameo pops up towards the end – don’t worry, you can’t miss him.

Nike has always delivered when it comes to their World Cup video as their “Write The Future” commercial dominated YouTube in the 2010 World Cup. They’ve kept their standards high with their “Winner Stays”, plus they manage to cheekily slot in a little plug for Nike’s new footie boots. Good job.

To the untrained eye, “Кто пустил ее за руль?“may seem like a UGC video. Fuzzy dash cam video, random music in the background, muffled sounds, unbranded channel – it all screams ‘User Generated’! It also seems to be building up to something slightly sinister and scary with something running out on the road and girl getting out of the car into the pure darkness… but then there is an epic twist which reveals that it is in fact a Subaru ad by their Russian division. I won’t spoil the ending, but it’s managed to be a viral hit amidst the confusion of where it came from.

Ahhh, the geniuses of Bad Lip Reading have churned out a rather belated edit of scenes from Twilight III: Eclipse. Despite the film being released four years ago and their “Edward and Bella” Bad Lip Reading edition being released a year ago, they’ve finally brought out their version of Eclipse. And it is by far one of the funniest and most random. Warning: Do not watch whilst eating soup.

Here we have a classic prank video: simple, funny and a touch ridiculous.  In Oculus Rift Prank, some poor Russian bloke is testing out the cool new Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets in some shopping mall and is unsuspecting to the dodgy man lurking behind him. It takes a while to get to the good part, but it is definitely a great advert for the effective high-quality of these headsets. They really sent him on a ‘roller coaster’ of emotions! Ahem.

Squeak of the week:

If you enjoy descending into YouTube spirals of watching hamsters cram as much food into their cheeks as they can, then you will love this squeak of the week. Watch a teeny hamster stuff mini burritos into its face, and prepare to feel jealous that we can’t all do this with our food.
