Google+ passes Twitter to take number two social network slot behind Facebook

Something appears to be happening around Google’s Google+ at least this is what some new numbers tell us from GlobalWebIndex. It says Google+ has 343 million active users which makes it the second largest social network globally. That is likely surprise some, if not many as it is still difficult to see how much of this activity is because Google pushes its network so hard to anyone who has a Google profile.

Essentially Google+ has gone, according to these numbers, from being a ghost town to being the new number two social network. Better still GWI has YouTube as its third largest social network. Read More »

Pinterest introduces news feature to make content easier to discover

Screen_Shot_2013-01-23_at_4.25.34_PM.pngPinterest has revamped its activity feed and launched a new “News” tool that is designed to make content easier to find on the picture-based social media notice board.  You will now be able to view “your News” on the left side of your home feed and in the News tab on your profile.

It will also include board invitations, but it will not include likes or new followers. Not clear why they are not included, but you can still receive notifications about likes and new followers through your emails.  Read More »

Social Brands 100 opens for 2013 nominations in biggest year yet

Social brands 100 is open for 2013 nominationsThe search for this year’s top brands in social media has begun as Social Brands 100 opens today for nominations in what will be the biggest year yet for the bench ranking report. Last year’s number one brand was food and smoothie drinks maker Innocent, which beat Starbucks, giffgaff and Cancer Research UK to take the top slot. The ranking also featured names from a wide range of industries including the British Red Cross Cadbury, ASOS, Manchester City Football Club, and KLM. However, too many social media campaigns are short-term and low-budget and are still failing to quantify their impact on sales, market share or other financial metrics, according to a new report. The report from marketing information service Warc argues that marketers need to apply the same seriousness to planning, budgeting and measuring campaigns with a social media element as they do to more traditional campaigns. Pinterest faces new challenge from UK start-up Publicate

London based start up Publicate has today come out of Alpha and into Beta, and announced itself to the world with a web tv series. Publicate allows users to build Pinterest style collections, but from any media across the web. The service is also connected to a variety of social networks, so that users can easily share their collections with friends and followers. I got to test Publicate earlier in the development process, and what I really liked was the range of media that could be compiled within the service.
