The Times is attempting to win new digital subscribers with an offer to pick up a 32GB Google Nexus 7 tablet for just £50 as part of an 18 month subscription deal. Under the digital deal the cost of The Times and The Sunday Times would be £4 a week.
It works out as a considerable saving. It means you effectively save almost £150 if you take The Times digital package. It is the kind of deal that will likely tempt more than a few paywall refusenik as they consider their options for buying tablets either for themselves or as presents.
The options on offer mean you can pay either £299 up front in a one off payment or alternatively you can pay £67.33 — for the tablet and first month subscription — and then £17.33 monthly payments.
Ironically news of the deal comes a day after News Corp closed its iPad only newspaper The Daily after losing millions of dollars.
