Lana Del Rey is “beauty Instagrammed”

I noticed the line, “Lana Del Rey is beauty Instagrammed”, as part of a 12 page spread on the ‘Video Games’ singer in the October issue of GQ.

It was celebrating her position as GQ’s Woman of the Year (as part of its Men of the year issue).

I’m not entirely sure what “beauty Instagrammed” means, possibly referring to her timeless retro look which is something that Instagram gives us, I thought it underscored nicely the photo sharing apps’ growing appeal in popular culture.

It was also the first time I’d noticed, but am sure it has been around for a while, Instagram used a verb. As in the way that people use Google, Twitter and sometimes Facebook.

It followed the report last week on how in August comScore data told us that US smartphone users visited Instram more frequently, and for longer periods of time, than they visited Twitter.

The report said that in August, Instagram had an average of 7.3 million daily active users compared to Twitter’s 6.9 million.

That followed the launch of an Instagram campaign by the Barack Obama team, drawing in celebs, to target the youth vote with its ‘For All’ social media campaign.

With its billion dollar price tag Instagram looks increasingly like a smart buy by Facebook — now if they can just turn beauty into ad bucks they will be laughing.

Lana Del Rey tweeted the above cover and that tweet has been shared almost 9,000 times.

It has clearly been a good month for the singer. She was on the front cover of Vogue as well.
