The Observer to be available on iPad from Sunday
The Guardian iPad edition is being re-launched as The Guardian and Observer iPad edition with the first iPad issue of The Observer to be unveiled this Sunday (16 September).
In addition to the Monday – Saturday issues of the Guardian, on Sundays the app will now include an Observer issue, featuring the main news section of The Observer, the New Review, the sport section and the Observer Magazine.
The Guardian and Observer iPad edition now mirrors Guardian News & Media’s Monday – Sunday print offering, and is available now on Newsstand.
The first two issues of the Observer iPad will be free to all users of the existing Guardian app. After that, monthly subscriptions for the full 7-day offering will be available for £11.99 per month a £1.99 rise on the current price of the Guardian iPad app.
Current subscribers can pay a ‘top-up’ subscription of £1.99 per month so they
do not have to re-subscribe. However, users can choose to remain on their existing £9.99 per month subscriptions without The Observer, or pay £6.99 per month for The Observer alone.
Features of the new expanded app include:
- *Full offline reading for all articles and pictures
- *Stunning photojournalism and in-article galleries
- *Related video content
- *Swipe to navigate between sections or stories
- *The ability to share stories via Facebook, Twitter and email
- *Instapaper compatibility
- *Related web articles, which open in an in-app browser
- *Interactive advertising slots
John Mulholland, editor of The Observer, said: “As the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper, we’re thrilled to be able to bring our journalism, ideas and debate to a new digital platform in a fresh way, enabling our unique content to be made available to both loyal readers and new audiences around the world. The look and feel of The Observer in the app is very much in line with that of the newspaper and we look forward to hearing our readers’ feedback.”
The Guardian and Observer iPad edition is free to download from the App Store on iPad or at www.itunes.com/appstore.
