Sir Chris Hoy rides the Twitter Wave of Olympic glory [infographic]

Sir Chris Hoy tweet mentions peaked at 19,000 per minute – the highest for a cyclist in these games.

The Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonathan winning Gold and Bronze respectively. followed Sir Chris Hoy with 154,000 tweets as they took Gold and Bronze in the Men’s Triathlon. Read More »

Lib Dems found to be asleep at the Twitter wheel

The Liberal Democrats have a history of dozing off on Twitter. Like social media narcoleptics. Whole weeks have gone by this year when the Lib Dem press office has absolutely nothing to say. Not a peep.

For one of the parties in government you might have thought the press team would have been busy all year round and making sure it was using Twitter and social media to get the Lib Dem message out there.

That’s what Twitter is for and for it to work you absolutely need to be consistent, as are the Labour and Conservative press teams in their tweets, even more so for a party struggling in the polls and one that has seen its prized pieces of legislation, in the reform of the House of Lords, crumble to dust. Facebook launches new mobile ad unit to capitalise on apps

Yesterday Facebook raised the mobile stakes as it made its online gaming debut with the launch of a real cash  bingo app.

That’s clearly part of its much needed strategy to make money out of mobile, which will be key to Facebook’s future growth and revenues.

Does my brand need an app or not?

Net-A-Porter was the first luxury fashion retailer to launch an iPhone app back in 2009. The increasing fragmentation of communication platforms has presented brands with both opportunities and challenges when talking to their audiences. If anything, the sheer number of digital channels is causing problems for brands trying to convey their message while maintaining brand identity.

One key area of focus and a choice faced by many businesses is whether or not developing an app is the best option. Mobile is naturally a crucial area of growth, fuelled by the proliferation of smartphones and tablets.

However, with the introduction of HTML5, the web is catching back up.  No one is likely to say there isn’t space for both websites and apps in our lives, but the question of what separates the two of them is being asked with increasing frequency.
