The Men’s Time Trial generated a total of 240,000 tweets, peaking at 12,000 per minute as Wiggins won – more than at the start of the Euro 2012 penalty shootout when Italy knocked out England.
The Women’s Time Trial – where Team GB failed to medal – generated just 8,300 tweets in total.
Over the course of the event, 117,000 tweets name checked Brad Wiggins personally– three times more than mentioned Danny Boyle during the opening ceremony.
Starcom MediaVest Group’s analysis using their ECHOscreen research tool also revealed the state of play in the battle of the sponsors with McDonald’s , Adidas, and Samsung the three most mentioned brands in tweets about the Olympics on day five.
