Twitter unveils brand revamp that places tweeting bird at its centre

Twitter has this morning unveiled a revamp of its brand that sees the familiar little blue tweeting bird formalised as its brand symbol.

The announcement is designed to do away with the many variations that have crept in over the past six years that are often used to represent the Twitter brand.

Starting today users will begin to notice a “simplified Twitter bird” that the company intends to be the universally recognisable symbol of Twitter. For all extents and purposes “Twitter is the bird, the bird is Twitter”.

Twitter said there was no longer a need for text (with the widespread use of the letter ‘T’), bubbled typefaces, or a lowercase “t” to represent Twitter. Now it is all about the little bird.

It has unveiled new guidelines designed to help those using its brand and assets, including its logo, content and trademarks.

“Our new bird grows out of love for ornithology, design within creative constraints, and simple geometry. This bird is crafted purely from three sets of overlapping circles — similar to how your networks, interests and ideas connect and intersect with peers and friends. Whether soaring high above the earth to take in a broad view, or flocking with other birds to achieve a common purpose, a bird in flight is the ultimate representation of freedom, hope and limitless possibility.
