BBC is most visited original news site in Europe ahead of Mail and NYT

New figures released by Comscore show that the BBC is most visited original news site in Europe and is second overall behind Yahoo’s news agregation site.

According to Comscore’s data, the BBC has the second highest number of unique visitors after Yahoo with over 26 million unique users per month in Europe, putting it ahead of all its major international competitors including Mail Online, the Guardian and the New York Times.

The figures, which include the BBC’s international website BBC.com, measure audiences across Europe with nearly 10 million unique visitors per month outside the UK.

The figures appear to reinforce the strength of the BBC’s multi-platform offer, coming on the back of EMS data for 24/7 TV news channel, BBC World News released earlier this week. This revealed BBC World News continues to grow its audience with a 5% increase in weekly audiences and 14% in daily viewers year on year.

No surprise to hear that growing numbers of people are accessing BBC News on mobiles and tablets and that in an average month the BBC News sites and apps are visited by around 8.5m users worldwide on mobile and tablet devices.

James Montgomery, Controller, Digital and Technology for BBC Global News, said: “The BBC’s audience goes from strength to strength in Europe across different platforms including both online and TV.”
