Ten users now have more than 10m Twitter followers, eight are women

There are ten users on Twitter now with more than ten million followers. Nine are celebrities and eight are women. Talk about your girl tweet power.

Lady Gaga is still way out in front and almost two followers million ahead of Justin Bieber who is in the number two spot. Barack Obama is the only non-celebrity individual in the top 20 and adds weight to the idea that the 2012 presidential race will be a Twitter election.

Lady Gaga looks like she will be the first Twitter user to hit the twenty million mark having been the first to hit 10 million followers back in May 2011.

She has basically been putting on a million users a month. Pencil in early March for the big two-oh.

How times have changed. Back in April 2009 Ashton Kutcher blazed an early trail and became the first Twitter user to pass the one million followers. He beat @CNNbrk by 30 minutes.

Kutcher (@aplusk) has gone on to pile on a total of 9.3 million followers while CNN’s breaking news account has 6.2 million. The ex-Mr Demi Moore should break into the top ten at some point, probably later this year.

Also bubbling away nine million are Ellen DeGeneres (@theellenshow) and Oprah Winfrey (@Oprah).
