Publishing and social media – a match made in heaven?

You’ve already heard my views on the subtle ways that realtime media, user-generated content and networks are fundamentally changing the world of journalism. As digital technology weaves its way into every part of our lives, it’s also starting to drastically change consumer behaviour – and with it, the industries and products around us.

The publishing industry has seen some dramatic changes over the past year, and that shows few signs of slowing down in 2012. A few years ago, it was simple – books were published by publishing houses, we bought them from bookshops or online retailers such as Amazon and the author was paid a small royalty for every sale. Barack Obama adds Instagram to social media arsenal

We’ve been watching the Obama team as it continues to stretch its social media muslces having signed up to Google+ – in November adding to activity on Twitter, blogs, Tumblr, Facebook and Foursquare as the Barack Obama runs for re-election in 2012.

Facebook won’t master social commerce in 2012 and other trends

What are going to be the trends in 2012? You will be reading a lot of these lists, but I wanted to share some of the things I think are going to count in 2012.

Huffington Post plans to launch ten international sites

The Huffington Post is looking to double its audience within the next two years as it seeks to form partnerships with struggling newspapers, according to a report in the FT.
