Microsoft Snares new CMO to steel itself against heightened competition

Today Marketing reported that Microsoft UK has appointed Philippa Snare, long-term employee at the company, as its chief marketing officer, which seems to be the final piece in a jigsaw puzzle of a restructure and follows months of turmoil.

Cost of advertising on Facebook shoots up 54% as ad spend rises 25%

Facebook adspend has increased 25% during the third quarter of 2011, according to research by performance marketing firm Efficient Frontier.

Its quarterly report into digital marketing also highlights a sharp rise in that the cost of advertising on Facebook. It says that cost-per-clicks increased by 54% in Q3 over Q2. Read More »

Telegraph story row explodes with expletives on Twitter

Telegraph website with Crilly tweetsYesterday everyone was very excited about the Guardian’s decision to put its news lists online and ‘open up its news coverage‘, which was a nice turn and gave a little look under the bonnet of the news process at the Guardian. It was another example of how news organisations are becoming more social, collaborative even, allowing their readers to get involved in the news process much earlier.

Later at the Daily Telegraph we saw something else about the “process” as a spat over a story by freelance foreign correspondent Rob Crilly and his news editor exploded on Twitter with the rudest of four letter words, which were then featured on the Telegraph’s website courtesy of its auto Twitter feed.
