Twitter’s ad team starts tweeting as it says 1,600 brands now advertising

With a large part of Twitter’s focus this year on generating revenues, Twitter has added a new official account to the list with the launch of the official @TwitterAds account as its advertising team begins to tweet.

The Twitter ad team’s account will be sharing news, updates, insights and best practices as well as blogging on a new Twitter Advertising Blog. The blog launched to conincide with Advertising Week in New York and where its head of global revenue, Adam Bain, was speaking and sharing some case studies about how Twitter has helped generated sales.

At Ad Week Bain said that Twitter helped Super 8 sell more than million plus sneak peek tickets to help opening weekend box office proceeds to exceed projections by more than 50%.

That is pretty impressive and shows quite clearly that advertising via Twitter can have powerful results or brands after Twitter’s first ad product, Promoted Tweets, was introduced last year.

At the time of launch it had only six advertising partners and since then, and the addition of Promoted Accounts, Promoted Trends, new analytics tools and additional targeting capabilities, it has grown from that small handful of initial partners to more than 1,600 brands.

With the launch recenlty of the first Promoted Tweet ads in the UK with Sky for Glee that number is sure to significantly rise.

Twitter claims engagement is high

“After analyzing thousands of campaigns on our platform, one common theme has emerged: engagement. On average, marketers have seen a 3-5% engagement rate for Promoted Tweets in search – an order of magnitude above most forms of digital advertising – and engagement has remained strong as we’ve begun testing Promoted Tweets in users’ timelines,” Twitter said.
