How airlines across the world are dedicating resources to social media [Infographic]

Airlines and social media it is such a natural fit, but how well are they really doing? This infographic and accompanying video give a really good take on what’s really going on. It gives an idea of how the number of fans/followers and how that translates into actual reach.

It also shows the different kinds or resource that airlines are putting into social media. For instance KLM has 23 social media staff, JetBlue has 34 and Virgin America only two. That surely has to translate into service.

Facebook advertising cost-per-clicks increases by 22%

Interesting research from Efficient Frontier saying that the cost-per-click of Facebook advertising increased by 22% in the second quarter of 2011.

It is also saying that the rising budgets for Facebook advertising and marketing spend is coming is mostly coming from offline media such as TV and print and that the average post by a brand on the social network attracts around 100 comments. Read More »

Twitter has registered over one million apps – five examples

This says today that it has now registered a whopping one million applications, built by more than 750,000 developers around the world.

This is up from 150,000 apps just a year ago with a new app being registered every 1.5 seconds. Read More »

Twitter could be the big loser to Google+ as Google looks for marketing partners

As we hear today that Google is to launch a business version of Google+ for brands, and is asking brands to hold off using the consumer version to create profiles, there’s also interesting blog post speculation that it will be Twitter and not Facebook that will be the biggest loser.

Foursquare now has more than 500,000 businesses signed up

Foursquare: 500,000-plus businesses on board

As we know, geo-location social network Foursquare is operating in an increasingly tough market, with competition on two fronts: rival check-in sites like Facebook Places, and the increasingly popular coupon companies like Groupon.

Nonetheless, a fortnight after it revealed it had 10 million members, it has said that it has more than 500,000 merchants signed up – the companies that do special offers for people checking in or for people with ‘Mayor’ status (meaning they’ve checked in the most) and so on.
