Fox News Twitter account hacked, declares Obama assassinated

One of the official Fox News Twitter accounts was hacked this morning and has been tweeting that President Barack Obama was shot and killed.

The half a dozen fake tweets on the @FoxNewsPolitics Twitter began two hours ago tweeting that Obama had been shot twice at a Ross’ restaurant in Iowa while campaigning.

The @foxnewspolitics has 33,618 followers and nothing like the main @foxnews account which has 781683 followers, but the the fake tweets still spread like quickly and there are thousands of tweets amassed under the hashtag #obamadead.

The first tweet was followed by others saying that it was “a sad 4th of July”, that “the shooter will be found” and “we wish @joebiden the best of luck as our new President of the United States. In such a time of madness, there’s light at the end of tunnel”.

Before the Obama tweets started, the account tweeted “Just regained full access to our Twitter and email. Happy 4th”. However, but before that several now deleted tweets were made saying that the verified Fox Twitter account had been hacked.

According to reports the hack was claimed by a now-suspended Twitter account @TheScriptKiddie, which tweeted “Fox news politics hacked by the scriptkiddies!  more embarrassment for FoxNews is imitate.” This was quickly replaced by another account, @ScriptKiddi3s, which tweeted: “Our old twitter was suspended @TheScriptKiddie here is the new, hopefully permanent, address. @FoxNewsPolitics just hacked” before that too was suspended.

It isn’t exactly the Onion or The Colbert Report is it? Whoever the scriptkids are they could maybe have poked more fun at Fox by pointing up some of its political and social deficiencies rather than such obviously fake news.
