Glastonbury by social media numbers – Beyonce rules as Orange made itself heard
BrandWatch has put out some a round-up of the Glastonbury social buzz where mentions of Beyonce outstripped any other artist by miles followed by Cold Play. Yes Chris Martin is right there behind Mrs Jay Z who rocked that muddy slice of Somerset.
Overall, the social media monitoring firm tracked 169,000 Glastonbury mentions, with a whopping 56,000 coming between Monday and Friday lunchtime before a chord had even been played.
The top five from Glastonbury 2011
- 1. The highest number of mentions of Glastonbury was during Beyonce’s set on Sunday night which peaked at 39294k compared to around 20k during Coldplay’s Friday night set
- 2. The only brand name mentioned with any significance was for Orange with their sound charge t-shirts and their Glasto app
- 3. Another highlight in the wordcloud was Kate Moss who was turned away from the ‘secret’ Pulp gig
- 4. Mud was also mentioned 3602 times. It is Glastonbury although the mud was mentioned more (I’m guessing!) by people not there and enjoying the schadenfreude.
- 5. Positive sentiment for the festival grew stronger throughout according to Brandwatch’s tracking. Overall it was 47% positive 3% negative and 50% neutral (usually people passing around news)

Interesting visual.
Funny that the sentiment grew stronger as it went along….After they got over the mud and Beyonce came on they soon perked up!
What great stats. Puts the power of Twitter into perspective. And they said it would never work ..pah!
