Social media played ‘arguably critical role’ in Arab uprisings, finds new report
Since the regime changes in Tunisia and Egypt, and other popular uprisings in Middle Eastern countries, there has been a lot of discussion about the importance of social media in mobilising protesters.
Now a new report by the Dubai School of Government addresses this question, among others, with the publication of the latest Arab Social Media Report.

Twitter finally introduces link shortening on Twitter.com (and goes Brazilian)
The speed at change at Twitter in recent weeks has become rapid in these last few weeks and today it gives users who still tweet mostly via Twitter.com, which many still do, something that they have been asking for a long time – automatic link shortening on Twitter.com.
As with the launch of Twitter’s own photo sharing service this development will hit third party firms like Bit.ly, which will likely quickly become the default. Read More
