Lady Gaga is the first to hit 10 million Twitter followers
Hurrah there is a winner and it is Lady Gaga. The queen of pop has become the first Twitter user (really superstar user) to soar past the 10 million follower mark. She beat Canadian popster Justin Bieber to take the 10 million crown.
Lady Gaga passed the milestone yesterday and has since gone on to add another 50,000 followers to give her a grand and rising total of 10,052,574 compared to Bieber’s 9,662,626 followers.
We already knew Lady Gaga was a star of the social media universe along with the likes of Ashton Kutcher and Kim Kardashian after iCrossing published its infographic that plotted the 30 top Twitter users in orbit around each other. There weren’t too many surprises. The list was dominated by music and Hollywood.
That was published around a month ago when Lady Gaga had 9.3 million followers and Bieber had 8.8 million. Putting on more than 700,000 in a month is some growth.
Interestingly, on Facebook Lady Gaga passed this milestone long long ago. She had 34 million plus fans compared to Bieber’s 27 million.
There are, on Facebook at least, a couple of brands not to far behind Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. Very close on his heels is Coca Cola, which has 26 million fans, with Starbucks on 21 million.
Both brands enjoy nothing like the following they get on Facebook when it comes to Twitter. Coke has just 277,000 followers (I say just) while Starbucks has 1.4 million followers on Twitter.
suggesting strongly that fans of brands don’t mind becoming a one off fan on Facebook but don’t want to hear from their favourite brands everyday.
