The LA Times is has some stats on Charlie Sheen and his inexorable rise in social media. Following his tweet on Monday about looking to hire a #winning social media intern Internships.com reported a whopping 95,333 clicks within the first hour resulting in more than 74,040 applications. As many as 900 jobs to go at AOL in latest cuts

AOL is to begin its next round of job cuts and it is being reported that as many as 900 could be lost. The cuts come on the heels of AOL’s $315m deal to buy the Huffington Post and the reorganisation that has followed.

Last week AOL CEO Tim Armstrong, while speaking at a conference in the US, said that there would definitely be “job changes”.  He said there was “no way around it, but we’ll do it thoughtfully”.  Many of the job cuts will hit India, which supports AOL US content operations. Read More »

Chrysler misses chances to turn social media disaster into a #motorcity opportunity

Interestingly little snafu over at US automotive firm Chrysler after a disgruntled former agency staffer working on the company’s Twitter account issued an errant tweet.

Chrysler quickly disowned the tweet in a blog post, but widespread retweeting indicated what might have been if the car firm had seized the opportunity and turned a social media bump on the road into an opportunity. Read More »

Rent your movies on Facebook with Warner Bros

We’ve seen that Facebook is starting to become more of a transactional platform for brands to sell products on and heralding a new wave of online shopping billed variously as F-Commerce and social commerce.

The most recent case of this being Heinz and their limited edition balsamic vinegar tomato ketchup being put on sale first to their Facebook fans, before a wider public release. A great way of getting early adopters on board and spreading the news out to their network. I was one of the people who bought one of the bottles of ketchup, and then chose to post the automated message to my wall, I’d think that most would have done the same. Read More »
