Talking social media #1 – advice from marketers

Ahead of Brand Republic’s up coming social media conference, ‘The New Brand Rules: Capitalising on the Social Media Space’, we’re asking top marketers for their advice on key issues brands face when engaging with social media.

Today Jonathan Williams, director of e-marketing at TraderMedia. He says among other things social media is abundant with ROI metrics.

What is the single most important piece of advice you would give a brand about social media?

This might be obvious but still many brands do it, don’t look to control what’s said about your brand in the social sphere. Join the debate to generate maximum value for your brand, don’t just republish content from your website.

How do you go about reflecting the voice of your brand in a social media space?

Social media provides a very intermittent dialogue with your customers, tailoring your social strategy can allow a brand to maintain the voice of their brand. The tailoring of the environment and the experience is often a tactic used to maintain consistency.

I’m being asked to demonstrate ROI in what we’re spending in terms of social media, how do I show this?

Social media is abundant with ROI metrics, it’s a fantastic tool for engaging advocates and testing new products / services before taking them to market. Cost to serve is often a forgotten metric in the social media sphere, the reduction in this cost for some brands has been significant due to good social approach.

Jonathan Williams will be speaking at Brand Republic’s up coming social media conference – The New Brand Rules: Capitalising On The Online & Social Media Space.
