Apple fanboy Stephen Fry says nice things about Windows Phone 7

Stephen Fry for WindowsStephen Fry, the go to celebrity for all your technology quotes, will it seems put out for anyone. The Apple fanboy put in an appearance for the launch of Microsoft Windows Phone 7 having previously slated Windows mobile back in the day.

No longer. He likes Windows Phone 7 and he was happy to get up on stage and say so. Although he was weighed down by his freebies.

Let’s put the idea that it is a clunky name to one side, before we ask the question: does Stephen Fry have any shame? I’m just asking as I don’t know the answer to that question.

Apple fanboys like Fry don’t usually have nice things to say about Microsoft and he could find himself in for some flack from the Apple fraternity. Steve Jobs will not be happy (“Stephen its Steve here…”).

It is quite a reversal and coup for the firm that Bill founded. Fry once compared Windows Mobile a 1960s concrete tower block.

“They forgot that even the greatest number cruncher in the corporation is a human being,” he said.

So how did Microsoft get Fry to sing and dance for them like Jack Black in that Orange cinema ad?

Well for a start they gave him several Windows Phone 7 handsets. He might be a celeb, but they’d as soon as elbow you out of the way in the fight for the goody bag. I’m guessing there was some cheque action as well. Whatever, it has certainly proved a Damascene conversion for Fry:

“I never thought the day would come,” Fry said, “that I would stand on a stage and praise Microsoft for doing something they could be proud of.

“Microsoft now get it. They get that people are human beings first,” Fry said who added that he “pleasure through them”.

Whatever the case we’re all going to be hearing a lot more about Windows Phone 7 as Microsoft kicks off its global campaign.
