AOP says tablets are the opportunity and the BBC the biggest threat [Slides]
The AOP has published its latest Content & Trends Census highlighting what its publishing members see as the most important issues facing the industry. The survey highlights mobile and tablet computing as the biggest opportunities and the BBC and the economy as the biggest threats.
“Like last year mobile web is seen to offer the biggest opportunity, with even more publishers agreeing this year, apps are also considered an opportunity by significantly more publishers and iPad further adds to the sense of mobile device opportunity. Other perceived opportunities are generally in line with last year, behavioural targetingdropping down the list a little, whilst last year’s second highest perceived opportunity – UGC now doesn’t feature.”
The census says that while economy is still a major threat it is lower than last year when it was a threat for 70% of publishers and the top threat overall.
The top concern has become the BBC: “The BBC has seen a 5% point rise year on year and has become the biggest perceived threat to publishers. Almost twice as many publishers year on year rate rights/copyright as a threat, presumably down to the rise in video content. Google is perceived less as a threat this year, down 8% points. Other key threats, Ad blocking and Facebook were included for the first time this year.”
