Murdoch plans not one but two app based newspapers as senior editors hired

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation appears to be developing not one, but two teams to develop standalone app based or tablet newspaper products.

It had been reported last month Murdoch was planning to launch an app based newspaper project, which would be populist in tone and aligned with the New York Post. However, a leaked memo,  posted online by Romenesko, from The Wall Street Journal’s managing editor Robert Thomson says that two senior editorial executives have been appointed from the WSJ and Down Jones to a “crucial” “WSJ/DJ Special Project”. Google to unveil ‘Google Me’ social networking plans shortly

Google CEO Eric Schmidt has said that its much talked of social networking plans, widely dubbed “Google Me”, will be unveiled later this autumn, but the suggestion that it has a Facebook killer in the works appears wide of the mark.

Is revamp of Twitter.com going to make it more appealing to marketers?

Twitter’s “major announcement” last night wasn’t about search as speculated it was about the much needed relaunch of Twitter.com, which could boost it as a marketing platform, as it becomes less of a chore to use.

The site, still the main point of entry for many Twitter users, has been given a new look and new features to make it more comparable to the richer experience that users of third party apps such as TweetDeck are already enjoying.

The most interesting question here is why hasn’t Twitter launched an official desktop app of its own to rival TweetDeck and Hootsuite? As a lot of people have said the revamp of Twitter.com has been a long time coming and it is probably too late to bring back  apps users. What it could do is help Twitter.com hang onto new users who might be less likely to stray from Twitter.com if its feature set is comparable to that of third party apps. Read More »
