The buzz from the Bees: Large brands putting faith in small agencies

Organisers of the Bees Awards, the first international social media awards for marketing professionals, have picked up on a couple of interesting trends which spell good news for smaller social media agencies.

Firstly, that they have received entries from five continents, proving to anyone that assumed otherwise that social media marketing is a worldwide phenomenon.

The Bees AwardsBut the most interesting trend is that 68% of the entries relate to large brands, who are actively embracing this new approach to marketing.  And that 70% of entries come from specialised social media agencies. This suggests that large brands are ignoring the big boys and trusting small agencies to run their campaigns.

Why is this? Maybe the smaller agencies have real expertise in a niche market. Or maybe it’s because they can react more quickly to the demands of such a fast-moving medium and are winning large client accounts as a result.

Bees Awards organiser Bastien Beauchamp said, ‘This is reminiscent of the dotcom rise when large agencies were losing business opportunities to small interactive agencies who knew more about the next expertise.’

The Bees Awards take place in San Francisco on 9th November. The deadline for entries is 1st October. Visit the website for more information on the categories and how to apply.
