Digg suffers dramatic fall; StumbleUpon rises [Charts]
There has been a lot of online chatter about one time darling Digg with users unhappy about its redesign following its recent relaunch, but charts released by Gawker Media show that redesign grief is the least of Digg’s problems as its referral traffic drops sharply.
The Gawker charts were sent to AllthingsD by marketing manager Christopher Mascari and it shows how Digg at one time sent an absolute bundle of traffic to the network of blogs that make up Nick Denton’s digital media firm, which include Gizmodo, Jalopnik, Jezebel, and Deadspin.
The graphs also show the rise in social traffic underscoring in particular the importance of Facebook in driving traffic to media publishers.
Interestingly Stumbleupon is doing well, but Twitter is not much of a feature. Last month it was reported that StumbleUpon’s advertising platform was gaining momentum and it was named one of top 200 fastest growing private companies in America.
