Twitter launches its app for the Apple iPad
Twitter is launching on the Apple iPad today with an app that appears to make browsing tweets and interacting with media really fluid. It has some cool little tweaks that have been designed to really take advantage of Apple’s touch screen technology.
On its blog Twitter highlights how tapping on a tweet opens a pane to the right and how easy it is to move between panes by swiping to the right or left.
When you tap a video link or open a web page with an embedded video, you can play that video inline, but it also allows you to continue scrolling your timeline while you wait for the video to load. That’s cool, video often being the bandwidth drag that it is you want to carry on doing other stuff — I think they call it multi-tasking.
You just swipe back to the video when it’s ready to play and can “pinch on a
video to watch it fullscreen”.
It uses “gestures” such as allowing you to pinch on a tweet to quickly view details about the author before you reply or retweet and you put two fingers together and pull down on a tweet to look at the replies, showing the entire conversation leading to that tweet.
Even if you are not logged in you can browse and play with Twitter through the Twitter accounts it has selected in various categories, such as art & design, sports, and news. It also allows iPad owners to view trends, and find breaking news.
