Coke and boobs scene not cut from Facebook movie

We already knew that Facebook execs weren’t happy about the forth coming movie about the founding of the social network site and the latest news is that a “wild scene” featuring drugs will not be cut.

According to Hollywood Reporter, a scene in Social Network’ featuring a scene featuring real-life people, including Napster founder Sean Parker (played in the film by Justin Timberlake), and cocaine will not be cut from the movie.

Facebook clearly wanted it cut, and have been talking to producer Scott Rudin, and you can understand why.

It features Parker, who was a key figure in the early days of Facebook, delivering a speech at a party where “two young women offer lines of cocaine from naked breasts”.

If it stays ‘The Social Network’ will almost certainly not get a PG13 rating. Still I bet it takes place in the background rather than full on in your face. So to speak.

The again it is an Aaron Sorkin movie…have you seen ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip’ or ‘Charlie Wilson’s War’? He likes the racy stuff.

Earlier this week the New York Times reported that Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook had been locked “a tense standoff with the filmmakers”.

The NY Times said that the film is “sprinkled with scenes of extravagant parties” including the one with teens, breasts and cocaine. I guess that’s social networking for you.

The NY Times quoted “a person who was involved with research for the film” as saying that that scene was one of “several that were mostly made up”. Mostly?

Am going to have to go back and read Ben Mezrich’s book ‘The Accidental Billionaires’ on which Sorkin’s script is based as I really don’t remember this stuff. There’s certainly none of that in the trailer — in case you haven’t seen it.
