LG says its tablet will be better than the iPad [Famous last words]

Chang Ma, vice president of marketing for LG Electronics mobile-devices unit, has told the Wall Street Journal that the South Korean company will make a better tablet computer that Apple’s iPad. Was that a good idea?

You might have to remind me the last time that LG made something interesting or distinctive in the mobile or smart phone market because I missed it.

You have to admire his pluck, but frankly Mr Ma I’m not sure I believe it.

LG apparently plans to launch 10 smartphones and “sell five million devices” by the end of the year in a scramble to compete with rivals. Ten really? One or two good ones should suffice.

Part of the South Korean firm’s plans include the global launch by the fourth quarter of a tablet computer under its Optimus line (who knew LG were ‘Transformer’ fans).

The LG tablet Optimus tablet will run on Google’s Android and will the WSJ.com reports focus “on the ability to create content, rather than simply display it”. Not sure what that means, but am sure all will become clear by Q4.

“Our tablet will be better than the iPad. It’s going to be surprisingly productive,” Ma said.

Well now you’ve gone and said it Mr Ma.
