Twitter passes 15 billion tweet mark
Twitter passed the 15 billion tweet mark at the weekend less than three months after it passed the 10 billion tweet milestone showing that its growth shows no signs of slowing.
The 15 billionth tweet was made by @EGRK. The 10 billionth tweet was only sent on March 4.
The steep growth appears to be proof positive that tweet levels are continuing on a steeply upward climb and that Twitter’s users base is becoming more active. It is impossible to tell how much of that is down to spam. I’ve certainly noticed more and more people onto Twitter — a lot since the election in the UK particularly.
Last month Twitter released figures saying it had 105 million users although it is unclear how many of these are active.
It took Twitter almost a year to hit five billion, but only four months to hit 10 billion. By adding another five billion tweets in three months it is now growing at more than one billion tweets a month, which means it should hit 20 billion before the summer is out.
