Blackberry to enter the tablet computer market
Wow, this space space is starting to fill up as it is reported that RIM has a BlackBerry tablet computer device in the works, which will launch later this year.
According to a report on the Boy Genius Report, it has confirmed with numerous sources that a 8.9 inch BlackBerry tablet will hit the market in December.
Furthermore, this is being pitched as “companion” device. Aren’t they all? I mean come on I have yet to hear a compelling argument to own an Apple iPad instead of something else, am I wrong (I mean I still want one)?
The site says BlackBerry tablet will have no mobile networking, but will instead use Bluetooth a connection to your BlackBerry or Wi-Fi.
This will come into a really tough market and you have to wonder if Blackberry owners would cough up for a second device from the firm. Not sure I would.
Its touch screen phone Blackberry Storm (pictured has not been massively well received — although it has just updated its operating system with a major refresh. That won’t be around to the third quarter and clearly that is what RIM’s new tablet will be based on.
HP has the Palm OS and as we reported the other day it is working on what is the HP Hurricane. That’s the code name being given to the HP new tablet device that will use the Palm webOS platform.
